Common questions
Percentage Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Divide the percentage by 100, then multiply by the number. For example, 20% of 50 is 0.20 × 50, which equals 10.
How is percentage change calculated?
Subtract the original value from the new value, divide by the original value, and multiply by 100. A positive result is an increase; a negative result is a decrease.
Why can reversing two numbers change the percentage?
Percentages are relative to a base value. Going from 50 to 75 is a 50% increase, while going from 75 to 50 is a 33.33% decrease because the starting values differ.
